UPCOMING RELEASE

With a nod to her Ghanaian lineage, Betty cooks up an Afro-Funk jollof with a spoonful of Aretha, a pound of Root & Jenny and a generous pinch of Nina. “Save Me” is hotter than a Scotch Bonnet. It's a spicy, tasty dish best served straight to the dancefloor.

Coming SOON on Vinyl on Skyline Recordings via Bandcamp

Betty goes back to the beginning when Rhythm met the Blues under the watchful eye of Gospel and the African-American Spiritual. 'Gypsy Heart’ sounds as though it was penned by Ray Charles for Eartha Kitt. You'd swear you heard it on an old Disney animated feature film. It’s mystical and cinematic but gutsy, and funky to boot! Roots Revival Soul with a sophisticated twist.

BIOGRAPHY

Many roads. Many miles. Many tales. Many lives. This Londoner was raised in Africa, schooled in Toronto, cut her teeth on the UK dance scene, made her bones working for every big name in the business (Primal Scream, Tom Jones, Anastasia, Incognito,) and is now reborn as Betty Black the enigmatic and powerful performer presented to you here and now.

You may recognise her as Elisabeth Troy, the writer and voice of MJ Cole's “Crazy Love”, a uk chart number 8 in 2000 which, alongside other tracks on the gold selling album, is now considered a classic. A solo album deal, tracks featured on Hollywood movies “The Fast And The Furious” and “Mars Attacks”, writing collaborations with Roni Size, Clean Bandit and other contemporary artists (scoring BBC Radio One “Record Of The Week” on several occasions) have kept her busy ever since. Last year she was invited to feature on the BBC’s  Disco At The Proms concert, a television broadcast in which she wowed the audience with her dynamic performance and fabulous costumes. The event was described by the series producer as “the most successful Proms to date”.

So WHY with such an enduring career and long string of club anthems does she now present Betty Black?

In her own words… “With Betty Black I get to go back to my roots as a soul singer. She’s an alter-ego, a fresh new page, with no expectations, and that excites me.”

Also keen not to confuse her long standing fan-base in dance music, she explains…. "I wanted people know if they turned up for a Betty concert, not to expect Troy belting out  ‘Crazy Love’ or ‘Enough is Enough’ from a key drive, but instead, a raw funk-soul explosion of LIVE music, with a s**t-hot band"
